Walter Canady
President / Coach
I am a home town boy to the Golden Triangle area in Lake County, specifically Tavares, Florida and continue to make my home in this great community. I’ve become well-known through a diverse range of people, primarily the youth; but it has always been my goal to make a lasting, positive impact on the community at large through community activism. I’ve always had a love of sports which began as a youngster playing Little league and Pony league baseball. I attended Tavares High School where Ialso played football and basketball from 1976-1979.
After high school I spent the better part of 10 years honing my carpentry skillsbuilding roof trusses with Tien Le & Casmin Truss. Those experiences led to a passion for structural design and engineering and I received my degree in Architectural Drafting and Design from Lake-SumterCommunity College and Lake Technical College in 1998. Furthering my education led to opportunities at Clermont & Romac Building Supplyfor nearly 20 years. My passion for sports and a desire to positively influence community youth fueled my decision to also seek employment with the Lake County School BoardTransportation Systemin 1993 as a bus driver.
Regardless of my personal achievements, my passion for empowering, protecting and educating youths through sports, led to creating the not for profit 5013(c) organization, The Tri-City Players in 1989. My affiliation withSt John IFC Church in Tavares and my membership in the local Masonic Lodge #111, MADD Dads (Men Against Drugs and Destruction), the NAACPand Elks Lodge# 1578, has aided me in acquiring the tools need to further the goals of Tri-City Players while continuing to build the character of the man. Giving back to the community that has given so much to me over my lifetime has always weighed heavy on my heart; as there is no better way to reciprocate love of your community than to nurture the children in a way that would forever impact the place we call home.
While I’ve certainly been fortunate in my personal aspirations, I’ve been equally blessed in the coaching arena as well. Tri-City Players, renamed Tri-City Ballers in 2006, has become one of the top youth basketball programs in the state of Florida and that success has led to many other opportunities to positively impact the youth. I’m or have been a part of the following organizations:

-
2011-2012Ocoee High School-Junior Varsity Boys Head Coach and Varsity Boys Assistant Coach.
